The Russian Aerospace Forces will receive a new regimental set of S-400 Triumf surface-to-air missile systems in 2016, the press service of Russia's Defense Ministry told Interfax-AVN on Sunday.
"A new S-400 Triumf missile system will be provided to one of the Aerospace Forces' air defense units, based in the Moscow region, in 2016," it said.
"Today, the Aerospace Forces already have four air defense missile regiments equipped with the most advanced S-400 Triumf missile systems, which guard the airspace over Moscow and the Central Industrial District," the press service said.
"Another three regimental sets of S-400 Triumf missile systems will be provided to the air defense units of military districts in 2016," it said.
"In the future, S-400 air defense missile systems are supposed to form the backbone of the Aerospace Forces' air defense missile regiments," the press service said.
The main task of the Aerospace Forces' air defense missile regiments is to guard and protect the airspace over the country's top-echelon state administration and military control centers, industrial and energy facilities, Armed Forces units and transport infrastructure from an adversary's attacks from the air and from outer space.
