Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani of Qatar has reaffirmed his plans to finance the construction of a cathedral mosque and an Islamic university in Ingushetia, a republic in Russia's North Caucasus, Ingushetia's head Yunus-Bek Yevkurov, told Interfax after attending a meeting between the Russian president and the Qatari emir.
"The meeting with Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani of Qatar was quite productive. I told the emir of Qatar in detail about this project, which we want to implement in Magas. He confirmed his intention to fund the construction of a cathedral mosque and an Islamic university," Yevkurov said.
According to the Ingush leader's press service, the project envisages the construction of a mosque, able to accommodate more than 8,000 people, and an Islamic educational and cultural center. They will be built on an area of over 11,000 square meters.
