The Iranian army has taken an interest in Russia's coastal mobile missile system 'Bastion' armed with 'Yakhont' supersonic anti-ship missiles, a source close to the military-technical cooperation sector told Interfax-AVN on Jan. 20.
"The interest of Iranian partners in this system derives from high performance characteristics of 'Bastion' and its reputation on the global arms market. Most importantly, Iran has a long coastline and waters which need protection," the source said.
New horizons will open for military-technical cooperation between Moscow and Tehran "after the lifting of international sanctions against Iran," he said.
"There are no impediments to the delivery of 'Bastion' systems to Iran at present," the source said.
The 'Bastion' system has been adopted by the Russian Navy. Deliveries of such systems to Vietnam and Syria have been reported.
