The Northern Caucasus Military District Court handed out a sentence to Visit Tazbayev, who planned to join a military group on the territory of Syria, the public relations group of the Russian Federal Security Service's Department for the Krasnodar Territory told Interfax on Jan. 22.
According to the materials possessed by the prosecutors, the 22-year-old man was Wahhabi (a radical trend in Islam) and planned to fight in Syria on the side of ISIS. Tazbayev was detained by Federal Security Service officials in 2015 at passport control at the Sochi airport while trying to board a plane en route from Sochi to Istanbul. During the investigation, the man confessed, admitted his guilt and requested a special trial procedure.
"The defendant was found guilty of participation in the activities of a terrorist organization and was sentenced to two years in a penal colony," the source told Interfax.
