India displays Russian weapons during Delhi Republic Day parade

India showcased Tuesday its military potential during the Republic Day celebrations in New Delhi’s Rajpath, where most of the weapons were Russian-made.

The 67th parade involved Russian Mi-17V-5 transport helicopters, a T-90 battle tank, as well as a BrahMos supersonic cruise missile.

The Sukhoi Su-30 and Mikoyan MiG-29 fighter aircraft were also included in the air show, with a Su-30 plane skywriting India’s tricolor.

French President Francois Hollande was the chief guest of the Republic Day with French military contingent, marking the first time foreign military took part in the Republic Day celebrations.

Russia and India enjoy good relations dating back to the 1960s. Moscow is among New Delhi’s foremost post-Cold War era military suppliers. The sides have boosted trade, military-technical and nuclear cooperation in 2015.
