Russian Deputy Foreign Minister and Special Presidential Representative for the Middle East and Africa Mikhail Bogdanov and Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab-African Affairs Hossein Amirabdollahian met on Jan. 27 to discuss preparations for intra-Syrian talks.
Bogdanov and Amirabdollahian had "a substantive exchange of opinions on relevant issues on the regional agenda, with an emphasis placed on the goal of securing the soonest possible political settlement of the Syria crisis in keeping with UN Security Council Resolution 2254 and in the context of the launch of negotiations between the SAR government and Syrian opposition representatives under the UN aegis scheduled for January 29 in Geneva," the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement published on its website.
The two diplomats "also discussed the situation in Lebanon, Yemen, and the Persian Gulf area," it said.
