UN unaware whether Syrian delegation includes Jaysh al-Islam, Ahrar ash-Sham

Office only knows the opposition delegation is coming to the negotiations

The UN does not possess information on whether the Syrian opposition delegation planning to take part in the Geneva III conference includes members of the Jaysh al-Islam and Ahrar ash-Sham groups, says Khawla Matar, the director of the Office of UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura.

The Office only knows that the entire delegation of the High Negotiations Committee formed in Riyadh is coming to the negotiations, Matar said in an interview with Interfax.

There is no agreement on Syrian Kurds' participation in the negotiations, Matar said. As de Mistura said, the negotiations will be held between the government and the High Negotiations Committee; as for the rest, including civil society activists, they will participate on a consultative level, she said.
