Re-subordination of the Cosmonaut Training Center (CTC) to the Defense Ministry is not under consideration but Roscosmos thinks having military specialists working at the CTC will be a useful addition, the state corporation's chief Igor Komarov said on Friday.
"In a number of specialties, we really think that military specialists might add features to cosmonaut training. The issue is under consideration. But moving the CTC under the supervision of the Defense Ministry is not under discussion," said Komarov, responding to a question posed by Interfax.
"There are a number of issues - organizational, legal, financial and social ones - that are currently under consideration," he said.
"We will be working through them with the cosmonauts so as to avoid conflict," the Roscosmos chief said.
"Documentation was being prepared, including at our behest, on areas and specialties where the CTC considers it useful to add military specialists," Komarov said.
"We spoke to senior defense officials, and their reaction to the proposals was positive," the Roscosmos chief said.
"Such a form - where military specialist jobs are introduced - exists at a number of facilities of the Ground Space Infrastructure Center," Komarov said.
"But this does not mean re-subordinating the CTC to the defense ministry. At no stage did we consider this matter," he said.
