The Coordination Center for reconciliation between the conflicting parties in Syria started operating at the Hmeimim airbase, spokesman of the Russian Defense Ministry Maj. Gen. Igor Konashenkov told reporters on Feb. 23.

"Under the February 22 Russian-U.S. agreements on the cessation of hostilities in Syria the Coordination Center for reconciliation between the warring parties in Syria started operating at the Russian airbase Hmeimim in order to implement the control mechanism over the observation of the ceasefire," Konashenkov said.

The main task of the Coordination Center is to promote the negotiating process on reconciliation between representatives of the Syrian authorities and the opposition, excluding ISIS, Jabhat al-Nusra and other terrorist organizations, which were recognized terrorist by the UN Security Council, he said.

Additionally, the Coordination Center is tasked to conclude agreements on ceasefire and to organize the delivery of humanitarian aid, the Russian Defense Ministry's spokesman said.

"Representatives of the opposition groups in Syria, who decided to stop the hostilities and start peace talks, will be able to call the Coordination Center round-the-clock on the common phone number," Konashenkov said.

"All those who turned to the Coordination Center will be provided with the maximal aid in arranging contacts with representatives of the Syrian authorities," he also said.
