The Russian Foreign Ministry says Moscow adheres to the agreements on the stages of political settlement of the Syrian crisis, in accordance with which the Syrian government and opposition have to form an administrative body together and come up with a constitution on the basis of which elections will be conducted.
Damascus announced the elections to the Syrian People's Assembly on April 13, 2016.
"We will continue seeking prompt establishment in Geneva under the aegis of the UN of full-format and inclusive intra-Syrian negotiations, aimed at the formation by the Syrian government and opposition of a joint administrative structure with subsequent development of a new constitution, on the basis of which nationwide elections should be conducted. This principle approach of Russia remains unchanged," Russian Foreign Ministry official Maria Zakharova said in her response to a question from the media.
