The possible construction of a nuclear power plant designed by Russia in Algeria will be discussed at a meeting of the bilateral committee for coordination of peaceful uses of atomic energy planned to take place in Algiers on March 1-3, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has said.
"The meeting is planned to discuss the possible construction of a nuclear power plant designed by Russia in the territory of the country, the development of Algerian nuclear infrastructure, and the non-energy use of atomic technologies, for instance, in the field of medicine," Lavrov said in an interview with the Algerian newspaper L'Expression.
Also, Algeria occupies a leading place amongst Russia's partners in Africa and the Arab world in terms of trade and economic relations, he said.
