ICRC asks Russia to support its operations in Syria

The ICRC expects Russia will support the organization's activity in Syria

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) expects that Russia will extend its support to the organization's activity in Syria, ICRC Regional Director for the Middle East Robert Mardini said.

Speaking at his meeting with the head of Russia's Federation Council Committee on International Affairs Konstantin Kosachyov on March 3, Mardini said that he is thankful to Russia for its support of ICRC operations and disclosed the contents of the ICRC initiatives and the letter containing requests of support in Syria that the ICRC delegation is to hand over to Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov on March 4.

In turn, Kosachyov promised to the ICRC the support of the Russian parliament with regard to his International Affairs Committee's contacts with the Russian Foreign Ministry and the Government of Russia.
