Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry in a telephone conversation on March 6 as the co-chairs of the International Syria Support Group agreed to ensure through the representatives in Geneva a rhythmic work of the International Syria Support Group's task forces on humanitarian issues and ceasefire.
"The sides gave a general positive assessment to real shifts in ensuring the truce on the Syrian land, which is observed in general and already resulted in a sharp decline in the level of violence," the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement, which was posted on the ministry's website.
"The sides noted the need not to allow any delay to the start of the intra-Syrian negotiating process under the aegis of UN Secretary General's Special Envoy S. de Mistura. In this context, Lavrov noted that with due account of the agenda of these negotiations approved under UN Security Council Resolution 2254 it is principally important from the very beginning to ensure the participation in them, along with the Syrian government delegation, of a really broad spectrum of all opposition circles, including Syrian Kurds," the ministry said.
