Search underway for missing Russian reefer ship's cook in Sea of Japan

The vessel was sailing from Okhotomorsk to the port of Vladivostok

A Russian search and rescue helicopter has flown out to search for a missing woman in the Sea of Japan, a spokesperson for the Far Eastern Regional Center of the Russian Emergency Situations Ministry said on March 7.

According to the preliminary information, the woman who worked as cook on board the Frio Sevastopolis reefer ship (registered at the port of Kholmsk) went missing on the traverse of the village of Preobrazheniye, Primorsky Territory, in the Sea of Japan. The vessel was sailing from Okhotomorsk to the port of Vladivostok.

"A Mi-8 helicopter with rescuers from the Vladivostok office of the Russian Emergency Situations Ministry's aviation rescue center flew out from Vladivostok to the Sea of Japan at 05.42 a.m. (Moscow time) on March 7, 2016, to inspect the sea waters and the coast," a spokesperson for the ministry's Far Eastern Regional Center said.

All vessels passing through this area have been notified of the incident. The Frio Sevastopolis ship has changed course and started searching for the missing crew member.
