Admiral Vladimir Korolyov, commander of the Northern fleet, has begun fulfilling the duties of commander-in-chief of the Russian Navy because the incumbent commander-in-chief, Admiral Viktor Chirkov, has made a decision to leave the Russian Armed Forces, the Defense Ministry has reported.
"Admiral Viktor Chirkov has made a decision to leave military service, filing a relevant report, for health reasons," the press service and information department of the Russian Defense Ministry said in a report obtained by Interfax-AVN on March 14.
