German Foreign Minister urged Russia to cooperate in fighting terrorism

German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier has urged Russia to cooperate in fighting terrorism.

"The disastrous terror attack perpetrated in Brussels, which killed at least 34 people and injured more than 150, is another bloody example of the threat we have been facing. I believe that a joint response to this common threat will meet mutual interests," Steinmeier said at the beginning of his meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on March 23.

The fight against terrorism "needs to be our agenda," he said.

Steinmeier proposed that the OSCE be used as "a forum to search for joint solutions."

The German foreign minister said he also planned to discuss the situation in Syria and Ukraine. "Indeed, the situation in Syria and Ukraine will be on our agenda today. We are halfway to a political solution [...] Hopefully, together we can help make these political solutions real and achieve their implementation at some point," he said.
