Russian athletes stripped of their Olympic medals

The Court of Arbitration for Sport on Thursday stripped Russian athlete Olga Kaniskina of her silver medal from the 2012 London Olympics and the 2010 European Championships gold.

The Court of Arbitration for Sport on Thursday stripped Russian athlete Olga Kaniskina of her silver medal from the 2012 London Olympics and the 2010 European Championships gold.

"All competitive results obtained by Ms Olga Kaniskina from 15 August 2009 to 15 October 2012 are disqualified," CAS said.

Russian race walker Sergey Kirdyapkin was stripped of all results he achieved at the athletic competitions between August 20, 2009 and October 15, 2012, including his 2012 Olympics gold.

Kirdyapkin won the Olympic gold in men’s 50 km Walk at the 2012 Summer Games in London. He is also the 2009 IAAF World Champion in men’s 50 km walk.

The decision was made following Thursday’s ruling of the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Lausanne, which upheld an appeal from the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) against six Russian field and trackers, including Kirdyapkin.
