Russian Defense Ministry: Armed clashes stopped in Homs, Hama and Aleppo

The truce agreement allowed government to intensify the fight against ISIS

Hostilities have ceased in most of the territory of Syria's Homs, Hama and Aleppo Provinces, Lt. Gen. Sergei Rudskoi, chief of the Main Operative Department of the Russian Armed Forces General Staff, told a press briefing on March 31.

"Apart from sporadic violations, armed clashes have stopped in most of the territory of the Homs, Hama and Aleppo Provinces. This has created conditions for civilians' return to their homes," he said.

The truce agreement with the opposition's armed units has allowed government forces to intensify their fight against the Islamic State (ISIS) and Jabhat al-Nusra terrorist groups (outlawed in Russia), he said.

"Since the beginning of March, units and divisions of Syria's armed forces, as well as units of the people's militia and the patriotic opposition, have been regrouped in order to conduct a strike against ISIS terrorist groups near the locality of Tadmur [Palmyra, Homs Province]," the general said.
