Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova has stressed the importance for Russia of improving the situation in Syria.
"The question of the Syrian peace process is of crucial significance for Russia. Attempts to turn this country into a hotbed of terrorism are a blow to us as well," she told reporters on April 10.
"Equally crucial is the demining of Palmyra. Not only because there are monuments there, but also because it means Syria returning to normal life," she said.
"We are dealing with Syria because we need this: this is the fight against terrorism, and other regional and global processes tied on Syria," the diplomat said.
