Russia to try to help Bolivia reequip its armed forces - Lavrov

Russian Foreign Minister meets with his Bolivian counterpart

Russia intends to play an active role in efforts to reequip Bolivia's Armed Forces, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has said.

"We have the relevant commission, and, following its session, contracts are being prepared in response to specific requests that our Bolivian friends have in the context of the program for reequipping Bolivia's armed forces over the next ten years that has been approved in their country," Lavrov told a press conference after a meeting with Bolivian Foreign Minister David Choquehuanca on April 12.

"We will try to actively participate in these issues," he said.

Prior to the start of the press conference, the Russian and Bolivian ministers signed an agreement on visa-free travel and a statement pledging not to be the first countries to place weapons in outer space.
