The incident in which Russian Sukhoi Su-24 bombers flew close to the destroyer USS Donald Cook in the Baltic Sea will be discussed in the context of military activity issues at the upcoming ambassadorial meeting of the Russia-NATO Council on April 20, but the creation of a mechanism of the prevention of maritime and air incidents has not been suggested as of yet.
"The issue of military activity will definitely be discussed, and it is planned to discuss this particular situation in the Baltic Sea in this context," a source from the Russian Foreign Ministry told Interfax.
"As to the mechanism, our NATO partners have no considerations about this matter so far, nothing related to this has been suggested. We need to take the first steps in this field," the source said.
