Russian diplomat says any disruption of the truce is out of the question

Russia and the United States are discussing the situation around Aleppo in Syria via special channels, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Gennady Gatilov has said, adding that any disruption of the truce regime is out of the question.

"The situation around Aleppo is being discussed via special channels between the Russian and American military. It is quite natural. Nothing extraordinary is happening. The most important thing here is that all sides ought to show restraint and help bolster the truce regime without any excessive emotions and without building up any emotions or predicting that everything will be disrupted," Gatilov said in an interview with Interfax on April 19.

Moscow does not think that the truce in Syria is close to being disrupted, he said.

"We do not think so. A truce process has been established, and it is generally holding despite certain violations, which are unavoidable in this situation. On the whole, we observe that the truce between opposing groups, between government forces and the opposition is holding in quite a stable fashion," he said.
