Kremlin.ruA barrier to contraband and illegal migration must be raised on Russian borders, Russian President Vladimir Putin has said.
"The Federal Security Service's Border Service is doing a vast amount of work. More than 3,300 border trespassers were detained last year. More than 2,800 criminal cases were opened on counts of illegal border crossing. We need to beef up the analytical potential and the level of technical equipment of the border network. A solid barrier must be raised to contraband, illegal migration and transnational crime," Putin said at a meeting with officers.
Besides, he noted the role of the Foreign Intelligence Service in the provision of national security.
"The solid provision of security also directly depends on the competent work of the Intelligence Service. Timely information of the Foreign Intelligence Service about potential external threats and forecasts of the international situation's development in unstable regions of the world are of paramount importance for making strategic state decisions," the president said.
