Russia is pleased to see that Latin America has gained more independence amid attempts of the United States to meddle in the region’s affairs, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov said on Monday.
The historic West is trying to keep dominating the global and regional affairs and Latin America, and the Caribbean Basin are not an exception, Ryabkov told a conference "New realities of modern economic, political and cultural development of Ibero-America."
"We see that the US foreign policy has reinvigorated in this direction up to direct attempts to interfere in domestic affairs of a number of states of the region," Ryabkov said.
However, international relations are too complex to be ruled from a single center, he said. "In this light, we welcome that Latin America and the Caribbean Basin are surely getting greater independence."
"We see that the region is becoming one of pillars of the forming multipolar world," Ryabkov said.
"The leadership of a number of Latin American countries has to settle complicated internal problems that have regional projection," the diplomat said.
"Russia is interested in overcoming crisis situations exclusively by political methods," he said. "Russia is ready to assist the efforts to the extent to which Latin Americans themselves are interested in this."
