Russian Foreign Minister meets with U.S. Secretary of State in Vienna

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov says he has discussed practical steps towards the Syria conflict resolution with U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry.

"We have had a bilateral meeting with a U.S. delegation led by Secretary of State Kerry and have discussed preparations for an ISSG meeting. We have spoken about practical steps we should take for implementing the earlier decisions," Lavrov told the press in Vienna on May 17.

The United States "realizes the need for the presence of all opposition groups at intra-Syrian negotiations."

"We can feel that our U.S. colleagues understand the importance of ensuring the strict fulfillment of all agreements, including the need for the presence of all representatives of the opposition at negotiations with the governmental delegation," Lavrov said.

Moscow and Washington have discussed "the contours of a possible final document" of the ISSG meeting, he said.

"Perhaps, tomorrow we will be able to present to other members of this structure our ideas as of what could be said at the end of tomorrow's meeting," the Russian minister said.
