6 Russian officers killed in road accident in South Ossetia

The accident was caused by the failure of bus breaks

Six Russian officers died and another 16 suffered injuries in a road accident in South Ossetia on May 19, the Russian Defense Ministry's press service and information department told Interfax.

"Six officers were killed and 16 were hurt in a road accident. All the injured servicemen were rapidly taken to healthcare institutions of the city of Tskhinval for being provided with necessary aid," the Defense Ministry said.

The accident was caused by the failure of bus breaks, the ministry added. The bus belonging to the Russian military base in South Ossetia en route from Tskhinval to Leningor overturned near the village of Goret, the Tskhinval district. There were 24 people onboard the bus.

A plane with military medics onboard is about to depart from the Chkalovsky airfield in the Moscow region to help the injured servicemen, the Russian Defense Ministry said.
