The death rate in Russia declined by 5 percent in the first four months of this year, Russia's Health Minister Veronica Skvortsova said.
"According to Rosstat's information, the death rate in four months of this year went down 5 percent from 2015. In absolute numbers, it's over 28,000 lives," the minister said.
"The maternal and infant death rates demonstrate a similar tendency," she said.
The maternal death rate in Russia went down 6.5 percent from 2015 and the infant death rate has gone down 12 percent since 2014. In the first four months of this year, it went down to 6.1 per 1,000 babies who were born alive," the minister said.
