Sports minister sure Russia to perform better at Euro 2016 than in Serbia

Russian Sports Minister Vitaly Mutko is certain that Russia will show a fundamentally better performance in European Football Cup finals in France than in friendly matches it has played so far.

Last Sunday’s friendly with Serbia ended in a 1:1 draw. Serbia had failed to qualify for Euro 2016.

"Preparations are over. I would not make any far-reaching conclusions, although the team’s condition is now clear more or less. I am certain that it will look differently in the Cup’s matches proper. It was a friendly encounter with no spectators watching it. That’s something different," Mutko said.

In the four friendly matches it was to play ahead of Euro 2016 Russia emerged the winner only once, beating Lithuania by three goals to nothing. There was one draw and two losses against France (2:4) and the Czech Republic (1:2). Mutko has urged the Russian fans to support the national squad no matter what. "We know its level, we know how it can play in reality and the attitude should not changed when something goes wrong," Mutko said.

"This is our team and it will remain the face of our football for years. And its coach is the best we have. I am certain that the players will do their utmost to achieve the highest result," Mutko said.

In the group stage of the European Cup finals Russia will play against England in Marseilles on June 11, Slovakia in Lille on June 15 and Wales in Toulouse on June 20.
