Putin: Western participants applying to SPIEF more actively this year

President thinks the reason is purely pragmatic

Western participants in the upcoming St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) are applying for accreditation more actively this year compared to previous years for purely pragmatic reasons, Russian President Vladimir Putin said.

"I think the reason is purely pragmatic," Putin said in an interview shown on the Rossiya-24 (VGTRK) news TV channel on June 11.

The TV host explained that Putin's interview had been recorded during his Q&A session back in April but was aired for the first time on June 11.

"They [in the West] have a lot of problems themselves, and they are also coming to understand, especially in the business community, that someone is trying to use them for someone else's interests, which have no relation to them. There is the desire not to lose what was achieved in the previous years and go ahead. Everyone is interested in this, and they see that we also want this and are providing conditions for this," Putin said.
