Technical problems is the main theory behind the crash of a Sukhoi Su-27 fighter aircraft of the Russian Knights aerobatic team in the Moscow region on June 9, a source close to the inquiry told Interfax on June 12.
"Technical failure is being probed as a priority theory," he said.
The same suggestion was made earlier by the Russian Defense Ministry.
"The preliminary data is that the crash of the Russian Aerospace Forces' Su-27 aircraft was caused by an equipment failure. The Su-27 pilot took every possible step to divert the crashing plane from a populated area. He had no time left to eject," a Defense Ministry spokesperson said on June 9.
The Su-27 crash occurred in the Pushkino district of the Moscow region. The pilot was killed.
The pilot was insured. His family will receive around six million rubles, a spokesperson for Sogaz Insurance Group said on June 9.
