One more Russian serviceman died in Syria

A Russian serviceman suffered a lethal injury after having prevented a suicide bomber from driving towards a humanitarian aid post in the Syrian province of Homs, the Russian Defense Ministry told Interfax on June 19.

"Andrei Timoshenkov, a serviceman escorting a humanitarian aid convoy of the Russian center for reconciliation of opposing sides in Syria, prevented a suicide bomber from driving towards a post allotting humanitarian aid to the population in the Homs province on June 15, 2016," the ministry said.

Sergeant Timoshenkov stopped the car bomb with gunfire, the ministry said.

"The explosion of the suicide bomber's car inflicted a lethal injury on Andrei," it said.

"Military doctors stationed at the Hmeimim base were trying to save the serviceman's life for more than a day but Andrei Timoshenkov died from the severe injury on June 16. The command posthumously nominated Sergeant Timoshenkov Andrei Leonidovich for a governmental award," the ministry said.
