The Russian Armed Forces will soon get a new remote mine clearing system, Director General of the Research Institute of Engineering (NIII, part of Techmash Concern) Igor Smirnov told reporters on Thursday.
He said that the Defence Ministry has for a long time overlooked this equipment, however, now the research and development work is coming to an end.
"After a while, the Russian army will receive new mine clearing system equipment samples,’ Smirnov said.
The NIII director did not disclose the name of the project and the timeframe of its implementation. "It’s early to speak of it so far," he said.
According to Smirnov, the new system will be able to make a 6-meter safe corridor in a minefield that is "sufficient for any vehicles."
