Moscow is hopeful that the change of the UK administration after the resignation of Prime Minister David Cameron will create new opportunities for normalizing relations with Russia, Russian Ambassador in the UK Alexander Yakovenko said.
"We believe that the new UK administration may create additional opportunities [for normalizing relations with Russia]; there is no doubt we will try to use this chance," he told the press on June 30.
"In any case, Russia, as a country adhering to a positive agenda, is certainly interested in continuing and establishing friendly relations with this country," Yakovenko added.
"Therefore, we will be making every effort to smooth over our relations with the United Kingdom," he said.
