Russia praises partnership with Laos

Sergey Lavrov says Laos played a major role in Russia-ASEAN summit in Sochi.

Russia values its partnership with Laos, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on July 26 at a meeting with Laotian Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith.

"We praise our partnership with Laos, which has a long and glorious history," he said. "It is filled with the feeling of friendship and good-neighborliness."

Moscow gives priority attention to the policy towards Asia, including development of relations with Laos and other ASEAN member-states, Lavrov said, adding that the Russia-ASEAN summit in the Russian seaside resort city of Sochi in May became an important event.

"Laos also played an important role in organizing the meeting," he said.

Thonglous Sisoulith said on his part he was glad to meet with Lavrov because they were old friends and colleagues, adding that Lavrov’s visit to Vientiane signaled Russia’s contribution to cooperation with ASEAN and guaranteed success of the event.
