Medvedev and Mutko wish good luck to Russian team at Rio Olympics

Prime minister and sports minister congratulated the national team on occasion of the beginning of the Olympic Games

Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev has congratulated the national team on occasion of the beginning of the Olympic Games in Rio, wishing good luck to the Russian athletes and expressing his support.

"Good luck and victories to our athletes in Rio!" Medvedev wrote on his Twitter page.

The opening ceremony of the 31st Summer Olympic Games was held in Rio de Janeiro on Aug. 5. A total of 279 Russian athletes will take part in the Games.

Russia’s Sports Minister Vitaly Mutko has also greeted the national team with beginning of the Summer Olympic Games and wished to the athletes to move towards victories and not to give in to difficulties.

The minister was rejected an Olympic accreditation after the report by WADA Independent Commission’s Richard McLaren.

"Despite all, I am absolutely with all my heart with the team," the minister told TASS. "I would like to send to all our boys and girls my wishes of success. Athletes, to each of you I wish to use the potential you have been gaining through all these years. The road to the Olympic Games was complicated, but now each of you has a chance to demonstrate to the world that we represent a great country, the history of the great Russian sports."

"Millions of people in Russia, in the world are supporting you, remember it. Good luck, and have victories," the sports minister told the national team. -
