Russia to host 2020 World Chess Olympiad

In 2018, the competitions will take place in Batumi, Georgia.

The Russian city of Khanty-Mansiysk (western Siberia) will host the 2020 World Chess Olympiad, Kirsan Ilyumzhinov, the President of the World Chess Federation (FIDE), has informed TASS.

"Congratulations to Khanty-Mansiysk. It beat such countries as Argentina and Slovakia in the fight for the right to host the Chess Olympiad," Ilyumzhinov said.

Khanty-Mansiysk will be able to hold the best chess Olympiad in history, Governor of Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Area, Natalya Komarova, has told TASS.

"We were preparing for the FIDE Congress where our bid was presented very seriously. We did our utmost to make sure that our bid is accepted. I am confident we will be able to hold the best chess Olympiad," Komarova said.

Chess Olympiads are held every other year. In 2018, the competitions will take place in Batumi, Georgia.
