Russian minister says producing vaccines in Nicaragua is 'very profitable'

Producing Russian vaccines in Nicaragua will be 'beneficial' for both sides

The project of producing Russian vaccines in Nicaragua will be beneficial for both sides, Russian Healthcare Minister Veronika Skvortsova told reporters on Oct. 23.

"This is our joint project. The Nicaraguan government has currently invested 37 percent in this project, the rest are Russian resources. We will export vaccines at their nominal values, and make them here. So, it will be a very beneficial project," Skvortsova said.

She added that revenue received from selling vaccines will be used at the second stage of production and its expansion. "Talking about return on investment, this will definitely mean that this is profitable production," the minister noted.

A line of seasonal flu vaccines will be launched at the first Russian vaccine production plant in Nicarague.

The decision on construction of a biomedical immube-biological facility was made in the framework of the Russian-Nicaraguan inter-governmental commission in 2013. The concept was approved by Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Nicaraguan counterpart Daniel Ortega.
