Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Energy, Industry and Mineral Resources Khalid Al-Falih invited Russia’s Minister of Energy Alexander Novak to participate in a meeting of the Gulf Cooperation Council petroleum ministers, Kuwait’s Al Rai television said, adding the meeting is due on Sunday, Oct. 23 at the Council’s headquarters in Riyadh.
"We have sent an invitation to the Russian counterpart to take part in the session of the Gulf Cooperation Council’s session of petroleum ministers due in Riyadh on Sunday," Al-Falih said. "Novak welcomed the invitation as a sign of goodwill to continue cooperation with oil producing countries and oil exporting countries for further market stabilization."
"Russia is a major oil producer and is a side, which has big influence in issues of stabilizing the oil market," the Saudi Arabian minister said at opening of the meeting in Riyadh.
The Russian delegation led by Minister Alexander Novak arrived in Saudi Arabia on Oct. 22. The Ministry of Energy said the topic is to attract investments into the oil, gas and electricity sectors in economies of the two countries.
The Gulf Cooperation Council unites Bahrain, Qatar, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, Oman and Saudi Arabia.
