More than 100 flights cancelled at Moscow airports because of weather

Early winter lead to snowfall with rain and ice rain.

More than a hundred inbound and outbound flights have been cancelled because of snowfall with rain and ice rain at Moscow airports, Yandex.Raspisaniye internet service said on Nov. 12.

It said ten flights were delayed and thirteen flights cancelled at Domodedovo. Delays at Sheremetyevo, Moscow’s main international air hub, affected 65 flights and cancellations, 96 flights.

The city’s third-largest airport, Vnukovo, continued operations without changes in the schedules.

The Ministry for Emergency Situations issued an warning on Nov. 11 night that a heavy fallout of humid snow and severe icing on the roads was expected in Moscow City, Moscow region and several other regions around Moscow.

In addition, weather forecasters predicted aggregation of snow slush on electricity transmission cables and trees.

Emergencies Ministry said the warning would stay in effect until 10:00 AM on Nov. 12.
