15 Russian universities made it to the 2015-16 Times Higher Education BRICS & Emerging economies university rankings, putting the country in the 4th place behind China (39), Taiwan (24) and India (16).

Just 7 Russian universities made the ranking last year.

Lomonosov Moscow State University, Bauman Moscow State Technical University and Saint Petersburg State University improved their rank from a year ago. Novosibirsk State University maintained the 34th rank, while Ufa State Aviation Technical University left the ranking.

“It is great news that Russia has 15 institutions in this list, with seven of these sitting within the top 50, up from three last year,” Phil Baty, Times Higher Education World University Rankings editor told RBTH.

Lomonosov Moscow State University was ranked third in this year’s list, up two places from 2014-15.
