Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a law classing motor races as demonstrations and the installation of tent cities in public places as pickets.

Putin has made changes to Article 2 of the federal law On Assemblies, Rallies, Demonstrations, Marches and Pickets, the official legal information portal has reported.

An item mentioning new forms of protest actions (tent cities and motor races) has been added to the law. These public events are governed by the law on assemblies and rallies.

The document provides that the current procedures used by organizers of public events for notifying about public events no earlier than 15 days and no later than 10 days prior to the day of its organization do not apply to assemblies and pickets conducted by one participant without the use of rapidly assembled constructions.

At the same time, the document provides that one-man picket participants who use rapidly assembled constructions, for example, tents, will be required to notify the relevant bodies no later than three days prior to the picket.
