In the country that produced “War and Peace” by Leo Tolstoy and “Crime and Punishment” by Fyodor Dostoevsky writing is still going strong. For the first decade of this century Russian authors have been creating alternative worlds and describing life in a dystopian future through the pages of their books.

Read Russia, from June 2 to June 7, will give you the opportunity to meet and engage with the new generation of established Russian writers, as well as the rising stars from the Russian literary universe who have managed to win local and international recognition.

A special RBTH magazine — Voices of Read Russia — will be presented during the event. This useful guide to contemporary Russian literature will introduce you to the likes of Gary Shteyngart, whose book “Super Sad True Love Story” made it to The New York Times Best-Sellers list in 2011, and the “Queen of Horror” Anna Starobinets. The magazine will also feature special content on Dmitry Bykov, a writer and columnist for various Russian periodicals and author of the verses for “Citizen Poet,” a year-long satirical project on the Putin regime.

Every day, for the week leading up to the Read Russia festival, we will be holding a raffle for a free ticket to the event. Each ticket is worth $100. Leave your name and email to participate in the raffle and receive a hard copy of our Voices of Read Russia magazine. The initiative lasts until May 31. Click the button below to participate.
