Russia to Host the World Robot Olympiad

Representatives of 47 countries will arrive in Russia to participate in the World Robot Olympiad (WRO Russia 2014), which will take place in Sochi 21-23 November as part of the international robotics forum Sochi Robotics Days.

The World Robot Olympiad is an international competition that has been challenging 7 to 18 year olds to construct and program robots since 2004. Russia earned the honor of hosting the WRO competition when, in 2012 in Kuala Lumpur, it won a competition among the best countries in the area of robotics and high tech education. As the host of the Olympiad, Russia has the privilege of creating its rules and choosing its main theme: “Robots and Space”.

Other events taking place as part of Sochi Robotics Days include the Innovation Forum, the Interactive Exhibition, and the regional robotics festival RoboFest-South.

The forum will bring the main stakeholders in the development of robotics education together: representatives of key ministries, leading Russian universities, and big business; international experts and academics; and students and schoolchildren who are passionate about creative engineering.

The international forum Sochi Robotics Days is being organized by the Russian Ministry of Education and Science. The charitable fund Volnoe Delo is the event’s strategic partner, and its general partner is the organization Lift to the Future.
