Meet the victors

At 9:00 a.m. at the Moskovskiy Railway Station in the center of St. Petersburg, there will be a solemn meeting of veterans of the Great Patriotic War, coming from Moscow by air on a special “Flight of Victors”. We should mention that opportunities to meet with veterans, listen to stories from the front-line and to congratulate the war participants with the holiday, will be available throughout the day in several places in the city – at the Dvortsovaya (Palace) Square, in the Mikhailovsky Garden (4 Inzhenernaya Street), and in the square near the Admiralty.

Festivities

The Palace Square has been chosen as the main venue for this national celebration. Several events will be held simultaneously during this public holiday – there will be a “Retro-dance floor” and an exhibition of military equipment that took part in the battles of Leningrad. Everyone will be able to view models of artillery pieces, guns from 1939, the legendary “Maxim” machineguns, military motorcycles and other vehicles. Organizers of the event invite people to an interactive exhibition called “military communications” – staff from the Museum of Telephone History will demonstrate how during the war the telephone lines were “dragged” to the front-lines.

Recalling the past

This year St. Petersburg will join in the special event called the “Immortal Regiment”. Everyone so wishing can, together with the veterans, take part in a procession in honor of the victory, which will start at 5:00 p.m. (17:00) at the Vosstaniya Square and end at the Palace Square. Participants are encouraged to bring along their own portraits of relatives and friends who were killed during the time of hostilities.

Singing flashmob

They will celebrate Victory Day on Malaya Sadovaya Street by singing! Together with the veterans and a choir, everyone will be able to participate in a singing flashmob, which begins at 7:30 p.m. (19:30) on Malaya Sadovaya Street opposite building No. 2. Organizers are hoping to perform the song Smuglyanka, telling a story about a partisan-girl during the Russian Civil War, with the participation of several hundred people.

Exhibition of war posters

During this festive holiday, everyone will be able to visit the exhibition entitled “We arrived!” – dedicated to military and poster art, in honor of the 69th Anniversary of Victory. During the war, posters were the most popular art genre. They helped mobilize society, by visually informing the public about the exploits and heroism of their people.
