The Syrians must decide their own fate without foreign interference, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said at the meeting with the delegation of Syria’s Tomorrow opposition group led by Ahmad al-Jarba on Monday.
"Two years ago we contacted here in Moscow," Lavrov said. "You were the head of the National Coalition of Opposition and Revolutionary Forces then, now you have a new movement. We found it very interesting to listen to the assessments of settlement taking into consideration that over the past five years we have been meeting with the representatives of the government and all opposition groups without exception."
"We know you as a true patriot of your country and that you are interested in the immediate end of bloodshed and full implementation of the UN Security Council’s resolutions based on the decisions of the Syria Support Group," he added.
Lavrov expressed hope that al-Jarba and his movement will "make their own contribution to the implementation of one of the key principles that the Syrians should decide their own fate without meddling from outside," he said.
