Following the successful launch of its iPad application, Touch Russia, Russia Beyond the Headlines released a video promoting the new product. Within a few days the video had been viewed by over 400,000 people on YouTube and Vimeo.

The brief plot follows Cody White, a student from the United States, as he decides to visit Moscow and St. Petersburg, “touching” everything from caviar to painter Kazimir Malevich’s Black Square at the Tretyakov Gallery. At the end, Cody invites viewers to “touch Russia” for themselves and download the application.

The video was deliberately shot in the style of a home movie, with most comments clearly failing to identify a connection between the RBTH brand and the main hero. Most Russians found it interesting to see how a first-time visitor viewed their country, what grabbed his attention and how this process was affected by previously-held stereotypes. “I really enjoyed touching Russia. It was a great experience to visit all the different locations. It was an interesting perception – touching everything, the hands-on action. I hope to keep on touching,” said White.

Most of the views came from within Russia. What are things that you enjoy touching when come to a foreign country? Check out this video and compare your experience with Cody's.
