There are three days a year when Russian teachers use every bucket, jug, and any other improvised vase to hold flowers given to them by students: The beginning of the school year on Sept. 1, the "Last Bell" on May 25, and Teacher’s Day on Oct. 5.
On this day students usually put on a concert to thank their teachers. The United Nations has marked the International Day of Teachers since 1994, while the Soviet Union started celebrating this holiday long before.
