This is professional holiday for servicemen of the Russian Ground Forces annually observed on Oct. 1. The day commemorated the date when Tsar Ivan the Terrible issued a special document in 1550 to create a regular army.

Ground Forces Day was established in 2006. This professional day is observed by all personnel in the infantry, tank troops, artillery.

Ground Forces is the most numerous service in the Russian Army.
