Sakha, Yakutia (Republic)

The largest and coldest region of our country is Yakutia! There are three time zones here and it takes several hours to fly from one part of the republic to another. And, of course, Yakutia is famous for its polar cold.

Oymyakon village and Verkhoyansk town compete for the right to be called the coldest inhabited places on the planet. The temperature in these settlements can drop to -60 degrees and even lower. But, summer in Yakutia is really hot. In July, it can reach more than +30 degrees Celsius. And, at the same time, the ground remains cool - all because of the permafrost beneath!
