Hammon: We Knew the Baskets Would Come

Russia's naturalized American Becky Hammon said she had faith the baskets would come in Saturday's 58-53 victory over Canada in the Olympic basketball tournament.

Hammon top-scored with 14, reaching double figures only late on to help the Russians storm back from 10 points down to take the lead with two minutes remaining.

"I just knew I had to keep shooting. The three's I took were in good position and were coming in and out from the basket," said the 35 year old, who was 0 from 5 three-pointers.

"We had to keep doing what we know and baskets would come. You miss five, then you make five."

The other teams in Group B are France, Britain, Australia and Brazil, with everyone playing each other in the group stage.

Asked whether the Russians have a gold in them, Hammon replied: "Anything's possible in basketball."

"Otherwise, we wouldn't be here. We can beat anybody and we know that one day we will make it."
